Meet Aezed, our trusty Executive Director

This January Do Good Lab had an election for a new Executive Team, who will formulate the organizational structure and strategies for 2013. While we announced who they are, we thought you would like to get to know them better.

First up I want to introduce you to Aezed Raza our Executive Director.

Aezed Raza - Executive DirectorWhat is your job at DGL?
I am currently the Executive Director, and I oversee the Finance and Development Teams. In this capacity, I am responsible for our fundraising and bookkeeping efforts. Additionally, I lead the Executive Team in developing overall strategy and vision for the organization. I also serve on our Board of Directors, acting as a liaison between the Board and our staff.

What led you to be involved with Do Good Lab?
I wanted to change my life–to make it less about serving myself and more about making the world better for those who were not as fortunate. A friend of mine introduced me to one of Do Good Lab’s founders, Ryan Jones. The first time we meet we talked for about 3 hours, and I became very excited when I learned about the mission and how it empowered community change while promoting the dignity of people in the developing world. I left that meeting a volunteer, and my passion for the organization has only grown since then.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I have an enormous number of interests which I pursue with varying degrees of involvement relative to my free-time at any given moment. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot and skiing when the snow is right. I’ve been trying to improve my chess and table tennis. I’ve been pursuing fitness at the gym, and training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I enjoy good movies and television. And I especially enjoy the moments when I can share quality time with my family and friends.

What did you do prior to joing DGL?
I have a background in tech, and worked at several startups in Silicon Valley. I subsequently became involved in foreign policy research at a large think-tank, which lead me to wanting to do more about the problems I saw in the developing world. I continue to invest in tech and entertainment startups in Silicon Valley and here in San Francisco.

What part of what Do Good Lab does are you most passionate about?
My particular passion is education. I think that education is the most powerful force for positive change in the world, and empowering our children will quite literally transform the future. My life’s goal is to help offer opportunity to as many of those children as I can.

Check back soon to meet the other two members of the Executive Team, Molly Brennan and Shannon Radsky.
